This thesis aims to discuss the relationship of Science and Romanticism during the May Fourth period, and it takes literary works of Guo Moruo as the breakthrough point .The thesis mainly contains three parts:First, the background of how science adoration comes into being. This part is a brief historical retrospect of Science, and it describes the general mood of society, that was science adoration. Here, the science had broken through the traditional concept, but took on the new look of the spirit of Science.Second, Science and the localization of Romanticism. Through retrieving the history of Romanticism, the thesis figures out it is essentially anti-scientism. Japan was an important intermedium of the receiving of western Romanticism for Chinese intellectuals, it does influent the course of receving. By considering the realistic circus of China, Chinese intellectuals abandoned the anti-scientism of western Romanticism, and made a creative change.Third, the influence on the May Fourth romantic literary works by Science. This part reviews the experience of Guo Moruo's study and his literary works, and concludes that Guo Moruo was adoring science. And the thesis analyzes the relationship of Science and his literature inventions from the angles of Pantheism, new images and Psychology.In the part of epilogue, the thesis concludes that Science had greatly change the traditional Chinese literary values, including the new images, new form, and new style. But the overdependence of science would lead to a new one-sidedness, it may weaken the uniqueness, artistry of the literature.
