John Fowles was a brilliant star rising from English literature in the 1960s, whose works are appeal to all deeply and are the integration of the tradition and innovation, the seriousness and entertainment and the history and present.The thesis interprets Fowles' works inwardly to show the procedures of personality of by analyzing the motif and text of The Collector, The magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman in Jung's archetypes theory. The introduction sorts out present research about Fowles and gives the reasons why the topic is chosen and introduces Jung's archetypes theory simply. Part one in the body discusses mainly Clegg is confined in his shadow and anima and fails to get self-realization in The collector. Part two deals with The magus, which young Nicolas is enlightened from the islands in Greece and gets the knowledge about the world and the life during walking in the "Godgame". Part Three involves in The French Lieutenant's Woman. It shows the journey of Charles' self-realization, which his psyche is beyond both himself and the time he lives in. The conclusion restates the importance and value in Fowles' work, which can help the readers to complete their personalities and enrich their inner world by following the characters' procedure to improve their egos continuously.
