With the rapid development of international business and multinational companies, there is a growing need for efficient product directions translation. However, the study of direction translation is far from satisfactory to its need, and traditional translation theories seem increasingly inadequate for its translation application. That is because direction is a very practical type of writing with high commercial value. Accordingly, if the translator rigidly adheres to the original form and content in translation just as the traditional translation theories require to do, the translation may not produce the persuasive effect and may lead to the failure in promoting sales in the target market. Therefore, a more practical theory and more efficient translation methods are called for.Different with other previous articles, which have based their study of direction translation on other theories, this thesis applies Skopostheorie to the study of translating product directions. In the light of Skopostheorie, this thesis approaches its application in practice and puts forward the translating methods with a hope to shed some new light on the translation of product directions. This thesis consists of five parts. First part makes an introduction to the background in which the present study is carried out. Chapter one reviews the previous studies made in this field. Chapter two details features of product directions and further explores the linguistic and cultural differences of product directions. In chapter three, translation methods are put forward based on skopostheorie for the translation of product directions with a detailed analysis of the various examples selected from all kinds of products directions. The last part draws the conclusions.
