Language is not only a symbolic system, but also a system of values and meanings, as well as a carrier of culture. As a kind of language symbol, the words and phrases relating to filial culture contain such moralities, which are accumulated for thousands of years in Han culture, as taking care of one's parents, family harmony, loyalty to one' country and respect the elderly, etc.. And every such word conveys a cultural feather of Han people from a different angle.Adapting the study method of Cultural Linguistics, this paper intends, through exploring the original meanings of filial duty, to definite its study scope, give a semantic analysis to the words and idioms of filial duty, and study the reasons why there appeared such an amount of filial words and idioms in the fields of economy, politics and social structure, therefore, further reveal the reasons why Han people attached great importance to filial duty, i.e. the cultural psychology of respecting the elderly and giving importance to harmony and the way of thinking of giving values to cause-and-effect and experience and preference of analogy.
