Mao's remarks on the historical figures reflects his historical viewpoint to some extent. This indirect study may reflect his historical values truer, though he judged some historical figures with sensibilities and the emotion at that time. He appreciated those young people who were very ambitious and talented and thought that youths were better than the elderly. He held esteem for heroes such as Yuefei who look death calmly in the face and neglected recluse such as Tao Yuaming who withdraw from society negatively.
