The Study Of The Net New Terms In Chinese Context

The study of Net language is the new field of linguistic research, among which the study of Net new terms is the main part.The Net new terms under discussion in this thesis refer to the professional, technical and fresh words and symbols created or employed by such Internet cyberspace as certain network user community in BBS and chat room etc. These words and symbols are called the Net new terms, which differ from the current Net language. The user of the Net new terms are the Chinese user community, namely, this user community mainly uses standard Chinese to communicate on Internet, and such new terms would be studied in this thesis.In this thesis, the author chiefly studies the formation, the causes, the types, the functions and the criteria for use of the Net new terms from the standpoint of Chinese lexics, and analyzes the appearance, the transmitting features, the use in reality and the influence on modern Chinese terms as well as people's daily life.In this thesis, starting with the fast development of Net language, the author classifies it thoroughly and carefully according to the large quantity of the existed language materials.As a social dialect, the main feature of Net language is its vocabulary system, the peculiarity of which is closely related to its strange word formation. The author takes a synchronic and diachronic, extensive and profound perspective to elaborate the types of formation and the coinage characteristics of these Net new terms, and meanwhile, he puts particular emphasis on their characteristics and generation mechanism.Net language interacts with the real language; it is restricted by the real language and creates some influence as well. Therefore, knowing the substantial features of Net language would be beneficial to the study of Chinese itself. In this thesis, based on the research of modern Chinese, the author makes the study of the characteristics of Net new terms in terms of semeiology and rhetoric.The standardization of Net language is an urgent task to fulfill. As a wholly new language form, Net language has a strong vitality, and it has a huge space for development in the new rising network culture. Net language is far less than developed or perfect compared with the traditional language, let alone substitute the original language system, but the spread of network would definitely promote the development of Net language. So it will not do without criteria, and it still will not work with pure criteria. Consequently, the author concludes that the moral education of Net language should be further strengthened, the Net language environment should be perfected gradually, and he thinks that we should be tolerant and understanding towards Net language; we should give guidance and make a further study to stimulate the development of language and the study of it.
