This dissertation for master's degree focuses on the Theory of Design Practice. The context consist of letters, figures, tables, number and symbols which lead to a conclusion base on the scientific theory, logical consequence, experience demonstration, subjective impression and former research results. Two kinds of idealistic concept systems have been discussed, one is the Rule of the Designer's Growing in the present age, and the other is How to Be a Successful Graphic Designer. The most important part of the future graphic design is the Mastermind Power of the graphic designer. First of all, we need to re-define the name of Graphic Designer. We should pay more attention to enhance the Mastermind Power of the Graphic Designer. The important role of the Mastermind Power in doing graphic designing should be also emphasized. We need to create a new generation of graphic designer who are not only a technician, but also a culture man.One of the innovations of this dissertation is pointing out that the graphic designer is a mastermind specialist more than a technician. Successful graphic designer should be full of strong mastermind power. Here the mastermind power has been illustrated in terms of Sun Tzu's the Art of War.This dissertation is divided into four chapters. Chapter One is the exordium. It gives a brief introduction of the social background, significance and methods of the study. Chapter Two is the study of Sun Tzu's the Art of War, which mainly introduces the general situation, the connotation and extension of the Art of War. It also carries out the study on the planning ability of graphic designer. Chapter Three is the social practice of the graphic designer. By analyzing the social practice of the graphic designer, the dissertation points out that the planning ability is indispensable for the graphic designer and this ability is the base of success to the graphic designer. Chapter Four illustrates the inner relation between the Art of War and the planning ability of the graphic designer. Concluded that the essence inside the Art of War which fosters the planning ability is "Wisdom, Honesty, Benevolence, Bravery and Rigor". "Wisdom and Rigor" is foundation of the designer's establishment; "Honesty and Benevolence" is the basement of the designer himself; and "Bravery" is the way to success. Chapter Five exemplifies the Art of War and the planning ability of the graphic designer.
