Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley, the famous writer of the English Romantic period, was the famous poet-Percy Bysshe Shelley's second wife. His father is William Godwin and his mother is Mary Wollstonecraft. Both of them are famous political writers. We have discovered that this novel has embodied the unbalance in the field of human relations and characters'sense of responsibility. It has also shown the various conversations between different people, including the characters mentioned in the novel, member of society and readers living in different era. Frankenstein has embodied Mary's rebel spirit, which has its realistic significance across times.Frankenstein's unfortunate destiny is not only fabulous but also prognostic. Mary Shelley could create out such a literature character-Frankenstein more than one hundred years ago because of her special family background and personal experience. This Work has very strong practical significance. Science and technology are not perfect but have two sides, which requests us never pursue science blindly but apply it reasonably under the guidance of humanism so that we can keep a large space for the development of nature and human being and nature can live together in perfect harmony. Nowadays, human being has grasped the clone technology, which can't be used blindly. What's more, the social and historical environment at that time contributed to it. Frankenstein embodied the science pioneers'quality of exploring and innovating, but his limitation of human nature were also shown at the same time. He had been a self-centered person all the time, although he dare to resist God and create a giant with his own hands, both he and his creation can't break away from the solitude and end with ruin ultimately. This thesis comprises of three chapters and a conclusion. Chapter One first presents a brief introduction to the literature background of the creation of Frankenstein, scans the previous studies of Frankenstein at home and abroad, and then proposes the central argument of the thesis: how the novel applies the features of Surrealism and its realistic significance. Chapter Two first interprets the term of Surrealism and then displays the Surrealistic features in the novel form the scopes of scene, plot and characterization. Chapter Three explores the reasons and purposes of Mary Shelley's setting these elements in the novel. The conclusion summarizes the views of the thesis. By creating a horrible atmosphere and demoniac characters, Mary illustrates her reflection of Rationalism and scientific technology. Scientific technology is not perfect, which has its advantages as well as disadvantages. So people shouldn't run after science blind right away, but applied science guided by humanity spirit reasonably, getting bigger space in the development of human nature, close human beings and the nature harmoniously. That's the inspiration Frankenstein brings us. In today's cloning times, people can not ignore this important issue.
