Analysis On The Making Technology Of The Jade Unearthed From Fenshuiling

10000 years long jade making and using make a unique jade culture in China, and jade becomes one of the important symbolizations of Chinese culture, so the study of making jade is an important part of the study about the history of ancient technology. Chan Kou Period in ancient China is considered the age when the technology is most exquisite in the history of jade in ancient China. The reform of social system and the development of the productivity created a unique culture of jade then, as jade developing from rite to decoration, the culture of jade gradually become mature, leading to more technology-development. The art of making jade is also developed, establishing the foundation of technology for the jade making of later periods.The Fenshuiling Tombs in Changzhi in Shanxi province were explored since 1950s. Where a large number of exquisite cultural relics were unearthed, of which there are many jades. The jades demonstrate the skills of the Jades of the Chun-Chiu and the Chan Kou Periods. This essay analyses 181 jade articles of that time collected by Shanxi museum. Based on the achievements of ancient experts, this essay tries to study the technology of making jade articles unearthed in the Fenshuiling Tombs by observing the jade articles by microscope scenically. At the same time I try my best to analyses the tool system, the concept and the style of the industry trades organization of carving jade. This essay will fill the gaps in the field of research.This essay has three parts: the first parts briefly introduces the integrated unearthing condition of the Fenshuiling tombs, and try to made a typologic analysis to the jades. The second part analyses the whole procedure, including cut, drilling, hollowing out, carving, polishing, mosaics and other processes. In the process of cutting, the essay clarifies some errors of races of sawing line, Tuo Saw, it also explains the using features of different drilling tools in detail, and analyses the method of using drilling tools. In the analysis of carving, the essay makes a case-by-class demonstration about many different kinds of decoration of jade articles; it focuses on the unique zigzag-shaped jade-teeth production process of the Fenshuiling Tombs. The third part introduces the tools and the materials of the tools during the proceed carving jade in Chan Kou Period in Changzhi, and it also explains the importance of jade in the technology concept by classifying the unearthed jade articles. This essay discusses the form of the organization of carving industry, reflecting some true situation of the social development of science and technology from one aspectFrom the analysis above, I arrive at the conclusion that in the Chan Kou Period the technology of jade articles making has been mature, and has had a complete system of tools, technology and organizations, which represented the advanced level at that time. And in that time the technology and tools of jade making were largely determined, which has been used until the Republic of China.
