Motivation can promote human activities, meet individual needs, and it is also the internal stimulus and the direct cause of human behavior. As far as students are concerned, motivation for study is the intrinsic strength to turn their learning desires into learning actions and it plays an important role in the whole process of their English learning. This thesis analyzes the survey results of the vocational middle school students' motivation for study through questionnaires and analysis. On the basis of knowing the situation of the students' motivation for study, the author designs an experimental programme to analyze the relationship between motivation for study and English performance. A number of relevant theories, such as the theory of achievement motivation, attribution theory, the theory of self-efficacy and learned helplessness theory, are introduced to broaden the range of the application of the study and probe into the relationship between the vocational middle school students' motivation for study and their English performance. Through the research , the important function of the students' motivation is highlighted. The research results show that stimulating the students' motivation can be of great help to enhance their English performance.
