Implicit Social Cognition Research On Relationship Between Self-esteem,Gender Identidy And Gender Attitudes

Implicit social cognition is becoming a hot issue in social psychology research, Social Identity Theory also have begun to use implicit social cognition research methods.In this study, there are 96 college students as the main subjects, the author uses the Implicit Association Test (IAT)and explicit self-reported measurement,to explore self-esteem, gender identity, gender attitudes'structure and the differences in the different sex,besides,this paper examines the relationship between self-esteem, gender identity gender attitude with the approach of implicit social cognition and social identity.The main results of this study are:(1) Self-esteem, Gender identity and Gender attitudes in Chinese culture are a double structure, that is, an implicit structure and an explicit structure.(2) The college students have a higher implicit and explicit self-esteem level, there is no significant gender differences between implicit and explicit self-esteem.(3) Male and female groups have a higher implicit and explicit gender identity, female have stronger implicit and explicit gender identity than men.(4) Men and women hold positive evaluation for their own gender roles.The male hold more strong traditional gender roles attitudes, but women showed more gender equality roles attitudes than men, women hold stronger implicit gender attitudes than men, showing a stronger implicit female- favoritism of the in-group(5) Implicit self-esteem and gender can significantly predicted implicit gender identity .(6) Implicit gender identity can significantly predicted implicit gender attitude(bias) and explicit gender attitude.(7) There is a negative correlation between Implicit self-esteem and implicit gender attitudes (favoritism).We can draw the following conclusions from the research:(1) IAT can be used in the study of implicit self-esteem, implicit gender identity and implicit gender attitude.(2) There were two level between the IAT and explicit self-reported measurement on the self-esteem, gender identity and gender attitudes.they are two different psychological phenomenons, are divided into explicit and implicit level, the two level are independent.(3) There was not significantly different on the implicit and explicit self-esteem between male and female, but there were significantly different on the implicit and explicit gender identity and gender attitudes.(4) Implicit self-esteem can predict the implicit gender identity,the implicit self-esteem have a negative correlation with gender attitudes, the implicit gender identity can predict implicit and explicit gender attitudes.
