The book Notes on Buddhist Temples in Luoyang, which described temples of Luoyang, was a piece of famous literary and historical works of Northern dynasties. It had many implications and it was written in neat formation. It contained a large quantity of materials and it's difficult to categorize, but it didn't seem disorder. It gave the impetuous modern people some inspirations, which reflected the culture identity and the strong mission to the culture of the author. How should we inherit the ancient culture and make it avoid the experience from the prosperity to the downfall as the temples used to, which is the significance we are going to discuss in this paper. And the purpose of the study is to find out how the author formed the complicated content into the whole one, which owned the sentimental depth and the thought depth. Therefore, the paper attempts to analyze the artistic features from the three aspects of structure, narrative and language, aiming to find the charm of the book which can surge people's will after thousands of years. The paper was divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, we hunted after some basic issues of the book, such as the author's biography, the primary intention, the stylistic feature and the academic value and we introduced the basic contents of the book as well. In the course of studying the author's name, we believed the author's surname is mostly "yang"(sun ), though most researchers agreed that his surname should be "yang"(poplar). In Chapter Two, we investigated the arts of the structure of the book from the text, the chapter and the space-time angles. Through the analysis, we found that the author emphasized the condition of the prevalence of Buddhism and its consequences, narrated the major historical events and figures, showing his grief towards the ruin of his motherland in the surface layer of the text meaning. Actually, we found that the author had hidden a strong cultural sympathy between lines if we examine the implications of the text carefully. Then we launched analysis to the chapter from the three levels of the whole part, each volume and the volumes between each other, discovering that the author described the city according to the order of the inner, the east, the south, the west and the north. His description was precise and clear, joining the heterogeneous materials into a whole part. The emphases of each volume were different and each volume echoed mutually. Finally, we analyzed the space-time structure, reveals the unique design of the intricate time and the orderly space, extracting a sigh of emotion of the Rise and Fall of Luoyang. In Chapter Three, we carried on various analysis of the narration of the book with the narrative theory. First we listed some terminology and sought for the narrative techniques of this book. In this part we thought much of appreciation and comment. We read the book attentively from the following points: direct narration and polite narration, point-blank and laterally, veritably and imaginatively, contrast and serve as a contrast; repetitive and analogous. Then we analyzed the narrative time. In the process of analyzing the time sequence, we drew a conclusion that the author preferred interposed narration which made stories interesting. After the analysis of narrative perspective, we found that the author was skillful in using the limited perspective. His description was coherent and rigorous, which had reached a very high level. Finally, we pointed out that narrative, description and lyricism were integrated with each other harmoniously. And we focused on the analysis of the peculiarities of the description of the scene as well as the impassioned lyricism and the listless lyricism. Our analysis of the narrative of this book demonstrated the maturity of its narrative art and dug out its novel factors. In the final chapter, we explored the art of language in the book. We thought there are plenty of four words sentences. The author used a variety of rhetorical tactics with a kind of both simple and magnificent language. We will have a better understanding of its literary qualities through the analysis of the art of the book. Thus we will be able to understand the reason why its fame didn't fade after years which can make us bear the responsibility better that had been put by the times and the culture.
