Notes of Buddhist Temples in Luo Yang is a shining pearl in the literary laurel in the Northern Dynasties literature. This book is famous for the wide range of content, which include history, politics, literature, religion and social life, despite the word number of the book is only 30,000. We can say it is an encyclopedia of Luo Yang in the Northern Dynasty. In hoping of finding more features of the book and of the social life in Northern Dynasty I analyzed Notes of Buddhist Temples in Luo Yang in a new way of narratology.My thesis contains four chapters In order to define the key point of this thesis I overviewed the history and the achievement of Notes of Buddhist Temples in Luo Yang's research in China at the first chapter. In the second chapter I mainly discussed the writer's motivation and position of writing Notes of Buddhist Temples in Luo Yang, which would initiate the story of Buddhist temples in Luo Yang and influence the structure of the book. The third chapter concerns about the feature of Notes of Buddhist Temples in Luo Yang, as well as the structure. The writer wrote as he commented. At the same time, the writer balanced the relationship of time and space. These are significant features of the book, where I paid more attentions to. In the forth chapter I used the polyphony theory of narratology to analyse the dialogue characters. I built up a present-past-deep in the past model to help us understand the writer's feeling during his writing process.
