This thesis aims at decoding the mystery of the novel's success, namely, tracing the reasons behind the novel's popularity. This thesis consists of 5 chapters, starting with introduction. The body part consists of three chapters, analyzing the reasons behind the novel's success from three aspects. Chapter 2 is about the author Dan Brown and the narrative framework and techniques of the novel. In chapter 3 the themes are introduced while in chapter 4 reasons behind the popularity of those themes are explored. Chapter 5 is conclusion. The three major themes of the novel are symbolism - human world encoded with meaning; Christianity and sacred feminine; sex - the divine union of man and woman. The author will study each theme of the above by viewing them in the big context of the contemporary time so as to anatomize the causes of their popularity.
