Since The Da Vinci Code, the blending popular novel of archaeology, deduction, semiotic and history, was published in 2003, the whole world blows a"Da Vinci Wind". When the film adopted from The Da Vinci Code was on screen, it even triggers an unprecedented heated discussion about the novel, especially for its subversion of history. Based on the criticisms that have studied the authenticity of the novel or concerned about the sacred feminine embodied in the novel, this thesis will employ Foucault's power theory to explore the history of the sacred feminine in the light of power. After introducing how critics analyze their conventional elements, this thesis, based on Dan Brown's division, analyzes separately the sacred feminine in the Age of pre-Christian, the Age of Pisces and the Age of Aquarius. The sacred feminine enjoyed pervasive veneration with the balance of the masculine and feminine in the Age of pre-Christian so that the whole world was in harmony. But, when human beings entered the Age of Pisces, patriarchal force seized the control of power and demonized the sacred feminine for solidifying its dominance. Therefore, the balance was broken and women were the subordinated to men. The harmonious world was replaced by violence and wars. With the end of two-thousand-year-long astrological Age of Pisces, the world enters the Age of Aquarius when people can learn the truth and be able to think for themselves. Nowadays, people are longing for harmony so intensively that the patriarchal force is weakened gradually while the resistance from the sacred feminine is increasingly growing. At the same time, women's positions are gradually promoted and balance of the masculine and feminine is being pushed further. It is apparent that the sacred feminine will resurrect in the near future. The Da Vinci Code embodies the history of the sacred feminine from being glorious to demonized then to resurgent, with the struggling between the power and resistance of the patriarchal force and feminine force. Meanwhile, the relationship between the masculine and feminine accompanies with the changes of the sacred feminine from being balanced to imbalanced then to restored balance. Exploring the history of the sacred feminine, it is clear that Dan Brown intends to show that only when the sacred feminine is resurrected can balance of the masculine and feminine be reestablished so that the whole world restores harmony and peace.
