Science fiction is an emergent literature style, which combined science and fantasy. The development of western science fiction started in the end of the 19th century. Since the first science fiction in the world published, it has developed enormously. It is not only a literature style, but also a lively subculture. In the U.S.A., there are innumerably faithful science fiction readers, whose age range from 8 to over 80, and even the course of science fiction opened in more than 300 higher learning institutions. As to Chinese literature, however, the modern science fiction is just an exotica. Therefore, it has been developing not very well all the time. Comparing to the development of the western science fiction, Chinese science fiction is still at the primary stage and has some problems such as the lower development of Chinese science fiction literature, the poor quality of the Chinese science fiction writers, the insufficient Chinese science fiction readers, the mismatch of Chinese main strain literature and popular literature, the shortage of publication in science fiction and the serious deficiency of science fiction critics and theory. Nevertheless, we must note that Chinese science fiction is developing and progressing gradually. From being treated as popular science reading matter for children to possess a large group of young readers, Chinese science fiction is thriving. It will not follow the way in which western science fiction developed thanks to the difference between Chinese and western culture. It began with great local characteristics, so it conveyed avoidably with heavy Chinese element.
