An Eye Movement Study Of Matching Color With Different Font And Size Of Chinese Character On Reading Network Courseware

Network courseware design is very necessary for teacher in network teaching. Reasonable arrangement of different font, size and color increase the readability of network courseware, so as to improve study efficiency. An eye movement study of matching color with different font and size of Chinese character on reading network courseware are discussed in the paper. Eyelink II eye tracker are used to explore main indexes of eye tracking movements and regressive eye movement results. Through analysis, the results are as follows.1. There exist differences in the indexes of eye movement while the subjects reading Chinese character with various colors and fonts. It is easy to read blue song, and the duration of fixation is shortest. For yellow song, the duration is longest. It is hard to read yellow song. The materials of red song have most regressive times and black song have lest. Pupil diameter is largest when they reading black words. Pupil diameter is smallest when they reading yellow words.2. The effect of word recognition between font is not obvious. But different colors have great influences on the subjects' word recognition. the effect of reading yellow type is best. The better effect of word recognition is blue. The effect of reading black boldface on a white background isworst.3. There exist great differences in the indexes of eye movement while the subjects reading materials with different colors and sizes. The duration of fixation is shortest while the participants reading green materials. The yellow is longest. Big-sized words have more chances to be fixed. Small-sized words have fewer chances. In terms of Small -sized words, the green is the color that is read the most times. For big-sized words, the black is the one with most regressive times. The pupil diameters of Big-sized words are largest. The pupil diameters of Small-sized words are smallest.4. The materials with different sizes and colors have great influence on the subjects' recognition. The subject recognition of middle-sized words is better than small-sized words and big-sized words. The best results are the blue middle-sized words, then the red middle-sized words.
