On research on Zeng Pu,a question worthy of deeply explosion is the connection between his creation and the French literature.Zeng Pu,who lived in the late Qing Dynasty,a period of great social and cultural changes,is patriotic and desired to save the nation by learning western culture.Learning French and translation French literature resulted in his devotion to old literature reformation and new literature creation. It is similarities between Chinese society in late Qing Dynasty and French society in 19th century that attracted Zeng to French novels.Besides, the novel theories and creation concepts at that time made him accept and learn from it.The greatest difference of Zeng's novel creation from his peer authors' lies in the clear display of modern concepts.Reflecting historical, political and cultural changes in late Qing Dynasty;showing the real painful beauty in the very times;expressing enthusiasms for revolution as well as describing people's particular thought in the changing age,Nie Hai Hua and Lu Nan Zi indicate the changes of the time in fluid scene,as well as express the confusion about social upheaval and individual destiny in modern way. There is a close connection between these characteristics and French literature.French writers such as Victor Hugo,Flaubert,Dumas,Balzac and Zola, have obvious influence over Zeng. Zeng Pu's novel creation practice, borrowed from French literature,to some extent is a progress over tradition. For example, breakthrough over the ethics tropism in his explosion about life and society, innovation in historical novel pattern, description of typical characters in typical environment—these that enhanced the development of national literature, was originated in French literature.Zeng Pu's creation was a bridge connecting Chinese ancient novels and modern novels;he played an important role in development of Chinese literature.
