Experience Of “Seventeen-year Literature” And Novel Writing Of Wang Zeng-qi

This article takes Wang Zeng-qi's experience of “seventeen-year literature” as the object of study.With the help of two publications and a novel-Speaking and Singing,Folklore and The Night of Sheepfold,as well as their historical background,the paper attempts to re-understand why the experience of “seventeen-year literature” is an important way to understand Wang Zeng-qi's novel writing beyond the “Beijing Group” tradition.As a literary editor and novelist,Wang Zeng-qi consciously transformed both his language and life sense of the 1940 s in his novel creation with his central-edge attitude in “seventeen-year literature”.As two publications which continued the controversy of “popularization of literature and art” and “national form”,Speaking and Singing and Folklore provided an important source for Wang Zeng-qi to understand “popularization” and “folk”.Both urged him to think more consciously about how dialect,local culture,spoken and written language were presented in his literary writing.The similarity between Wang Zeng-qi's writing in 1980 s and Zhao Shu-li's writing in 1950 s is not a coincidence,but the continuation of “seventeen-year literature” experience.However,unlike Zhao Shu-li,Wang Zeng-qi pursued spiritual function of literature and art by avoiding “socialist realism”.But this not means that Wang Zeng-qi's novels are divorced from social reality.His novel writing in 1980 s placed laborers in the prospects of landscape description so that the ethic and morality possessed by laborers were highlighted;thus the novels expressed author's ideal of social construction-to promote national aesthetic education by literature.As Wang Zeng-qi's only work in “seventeen-year literature”,The Night of Sheepfold is a direct reference for readers to understand how it rewrote “youth Wang Zeng-qi” in terms of language and thought from the experience of “seventeen-years literature”.Through the practice of language sense gained from the experience of “seventeen-years literature”,both omniscient perspective and first-person perspective changed a lot.At the same time,the change of narration successfully created a new image different from that of the 1940 s.As a new starting point of literary rewriting,The Night of Sheepfold also provides a traceable reference for understanding the image of laborers in Wang Zeng-qi's novels written in 1980 s.
