This thesis analyzes Chinese college students'oral English ability and intercultural communication competence. To solve the problem and help our students develop their intercultural communication competence, this thesis proposes to apply the task-based instruction theory to oral English classroom teaching. The thesis literature review expounds on the task-based instruction theory, explaining the concept of intercultural communication competence and examining the current Chinese situation of culture teaching in foreign language teaching. The most important third part, presents the author's experiment to apply task-based instruction theory to college oral English classroom teaching. This one-semester teaching experiment adopted the treatment and the control group method. Based on a comparison of the test results (both an oral test and a written test) of two groups, it is concluded that this teaching reform has contributed significantly to students'oral English improvement and their intercultural communication competence development. The thesis concludes with the author's reflections on the research.
