Secondary normal English schools aim to train primary school English teachers.But recently they face the severe situation.First, the source of students is in short. Second, students'level has dropped.Third, the employment opportunity for graduates from secondary normal schools are slimmer than ever before. Besides,fewer boy students are willing to enter secondary normal schools especially majoring in English,what's worse,among those boy studens who are English majors,the majority of them are suffering from English study inefficiency. They have poor basic knowledge, no good study habits, no interest in learning, no clear learning objectives. This is bound to affect the quality of English education in primary schools .How to improve their poor academic achievement is one investigative field that the pedagogies and psychologists are very interested in. If we understand the causes and laws of development that affect the underachievers, we will be able to take effective education measures for them so as to improve their learning efficiency and school grade.This paper bases on the Cause and Result theory, Self-efficiency theory, Helpless sense and causing theory. The writer adopted the methods of investigation,questionnaire, literature review, and interviews to probe into the male underachievers in normal schools and corresponding strategies according to the results.
