Using a matching sample of 202 managers and 604 employees from 22 firms, the present article investigated what and how the employee and the manager's personality to influence the employee's innovation behavior by applying the structural equation modeling analysis.Results from the empirical test indicated that(1)the employee and the manager's proactive personality both have a significant impact on the employee's innovation behavior.(2)the employee and the manager's proactive personality both have a significant impact on the employee's perceived LMX relationship. (3)the employee's perceived LMX relationship has a significant impact on the employee's innovation behavior.(4)the employee's perceived LMX relationship partly mediates the relationship between the employee and the manager's proactive personality and the employee's innovation behavior.(5)the interaction of the employee and the manager's proactive personality has a significant impact on the employee's innovation behavior, but not significant on the employee's perceived LMX relationship.
