With the rapid development of mass culture, one of the most common forms of mass culture, film or television, has gradually become closely linked with our daily life. Film or television originates from our real life, so it can reflect our real world. When we study a foreign language, we may find that lack of vivid language circumstance is one of the biggest barriers. Even in language teaching classrooms, especially those without native speaker teachers, lack of vivid language circumstance may affect the quality of teaching. However, along with the globalization of movie and television culture, the original sound film and television have been introduced to the foreign language study and play a vital role in language learning. As a result of the popularization of this text form, many researches have been made relating to this filed. This paper in view of the characteristics of film and television text, utilizing the pragmatic approach, analyzes the pragmatic principles lying in the conversations of the filmic texts. Such as presupposition and deixis, relevance, speech acts, conversational implicature, conversational strategies in filmic texts.Using some dialogues in famous movies as the basic materials, this paper carries out the analysis and research with principles of pragmatics. By doing this, the language can be analyzed more profoundly, the conversations can be understood more thoroughly and the relationships between the characters and the character's image, intention, social status implied from the lines can be implied. In addition, the theme of a work can be understood easily. This research is not only significant in English language study, but also significant in the daily language use.In the first part, introduction is presented. It contains the background, the aim of writing this paper and the structure of this paper. Chapter one to three are the main parts of this paper. Firstly, it summarizes both the domestic research in pragmatics field and the research abroad and gives a general literature review. Secondly, the principles of pragmatics used to analyze the filmic texts are presented and explained. Thirdly, the application of these principles to filmic texts is introduced and analyzed. In this part, many examples from the famous films are used to illustrate the main idea. The last part is the conclusion of this paper.By analyzing the filmic text through the principles of pragmatics, the author hopes to understand the stylistic features of this special text. Some researches towards modern English from the perspective of filmic text have been done in order to contribute to language learning. The author hopes to do some exploration for the further English language study and research.
