Virginia Woolf is a British landmark woman writer and feminist thinker.Based on feminist narrative standpoint to advocate feminist aesthetic and highlight feminist awareness,she created many excellent novels Mrs.Dalloway,To the Lighthouse,The Waves,Orlando,ect.As an important feminist writer,Woolf advocated and practiced the ideology of androgynywhich is one of her great achievements to literary theory and creation.After reviewing the concept of androgyny and Woolf's feminist standpoint,the dissertation interprets the ideology of androgyny reflecting on her narrative texts from the following aspects,such as the analysis to figurers, symbolic images and time mold.The paper consists of prologue,two main parts and summary.The prologue briefly introduces Woolf's achievement in literature,the ideology of androgyny,feminist standpoint and the paper's theme.The first part makes analysis on the latter:first,the dissertation combs the evolution of the concept of androgyny which was originated from primitive ideas of mythos to the mature conception of feminist aesthetics,with the help of the tools of mythology,etymology,psychology, feminist poetics,and so on.Then Woolf's feminist standpoint is being scrutinized and showed through juxtaposition with her best wish that the genders would exist in peace and harmony,which was obviously with strong betrayal spirits in the man-centered historical context.But in the circle of feminism,there was full of feminist awareness.However,the critics have different opinions about Woolf's feminist standpoint of the ideology of androgyny,approving or opposing it.The author positively appraises that androgyny belongs to feminist ideology.The second part devolves from the analysis of ideology into its practice in narrative texts.Narrative factors of feminist literature are meaningful.Androgyny is not only an ideal,but can be realized in the narrative texts, which has been proved in Woolf's novels.Androgyny is the pivot of her books,and throughout the narrative creations such as figure-portraying,symbolic -constructing and time-modeling.As to the Androgyny's figures,the dissertation analyzes the four kinds of characters:bisexual-flowing character;the character of having gender characteristics;the character of merging the differences between male and female;the other sexes of integrating these differences.These figures melting the qualities of genders stand for Woolf's best wish to spiritual world of androgyny.As to a series of symbolic images,the dissertation focuses on the images of the lighthouse,painting mold in the heart of Lily,wild-blooming carnation,etc,which were put out to convey her pursuits to the harmony and peace of two genders.For Androgyny's time model,taking the description and arrangement of the physical and the mental time in Mrs.Dalloway,To the Lighthouse,The Waves as examples,the dissertation shows the physical time with the rigid logic,which represents the masculine reason,while the mental time full of fragments,which delivering the feminine sensitivity.On the arrangement of the novel's narrative time,Woolf actively explored the approach to make the physical time and the mental time together.At last,the dissertation summarizes the theme,and emphasize on the eternal value of Woolf's ideology of androgyny and her related feminist standpoint.Woolfs ideology of "Androgyny" will never fade.
