Lo Takang, a famous scholar in the field of French literature, was also a distinctive modernistic poet. The latter identity has rarely been mentioned. Since Lo Takang had a good command of Chinese classical culture as well as profound knowledge of French modernistic poetry arts, he was able to write poetry in both languages. Actually, two collections of poems,"Nonstring-Qin" (Chinese poetry) and "Rose and Toilet " (French poetry), were published in his later years. This paper complied and researched the poetry of Lo Takang's early years, in order to restore his identity of poet in the literature history. As early as in 1930s, Lo Takang published a number of poems with a pen name of"Luo Mochen".Lo Takang's poetry writing in the 1930s and 1940s showed a development of three natural phrases. In the period of studying in Peking, Lo Takang wrote poetry in a romantic style. During his postgraduate studying in France, his poetry writing experienced a transitional phase. The feeling in his poetry became more controlled, and the language became more meticulous, comprehensive of the Western modernistic poetry and Chinese classical poetry. The"Ashes"in 1940s marked the maturity of Lo Takang's poetry creation. It took the unique forms of four lines of modernistic poems,completely divorced from copying works of others. It's an excellent integration of French modernistic poetry and Chinese Poems. Lo Takang formed his self-style in this group of poems.In addition to poetry writing, the paper also sorted out Lo Takang's theory research of French modernistic poetry. As the expert on French literature, his theory research of modernism school of French poetry completely embodied the concept of his poetry writing. He said, the modern poetry was a noble art, and the art was personal. Writing poetry must be out of the poet's soul and give vent to feelings .The focus of writing poetry was internal rather than rigidly adhering to the rhythm. Poetry is by no means a rhyme prose. Poetry is the language between language of everyday and music. These insights of modern poetry were an important part of Lo Takang's academic achievement, but those had not aroused attention. The paper compiled Lo Takang's early poetry writing and sorted out his academic writings on modern poetry, in order to restore an integral identity of"scholar poet"for Lo Takang.
