Classroom Communication In English Teaching: Problems And Suggested Solutions

With the development of economic globalization, intercultural and international contact has become the order of the day. The important status of English, an international language is now generally recognized, and educators all agreed that the main purpose of learning and teaching English is to enable students to communicate in English. With the new requirements of the New Curriculum Standard to meet, the situation we are faced with of overcrowded classrooms, insufficient time for English teaching and learning in high school and students' differing needs sets us thinking about the ways of improving classroom atmosphere to achieve better classroom communication. However, nowadays, classroom communication in senior high school is far from satisfactory because of students' psychological factors, big class with too many students, teachers' limited ability, unfavorable assessment system, etc. , which are all conducive to the unsatisfactory outcome of classroom English communication in senior high school. Classroom teaching is the main organization of teaching in China, and it is the most important chain in education. So we have to probe countermeasures to the problems to promote better classroom communication. Accepting the fact that classroom teaching is still and will always be the main form of teaching organization, what we need to do is to focus on classroom atmosphere with full attention paid to students' psychological factors, their needs and the adjustment of assessment system. And to achieve all these, we should give priority to character and professional education of English teachers themselves in our theoretical exploration and teaching practice.
