Diaolongbei Neolithic site in Zaoyang attracts worldwide attention with its unique cultural feature, developed settlement, scarce tomb customs. It is helpful to get a clear picture of the cultural feature and development status of the northern- southern cultural junctional belt by analyzing the Diaolongbei site. The essay includes five parts:Part 1, exordium. This part briefly introduced the location of Diaolongbei site, the excavation process and the site status, the buried age and research summary history. The site, located in the Suizao Corridor, had been a passageway of cultural communication since the ancient times, which is 6300 to 4800 years ago. At present, the research on the site focus on the judgment of cultural characteristics, the analysis of settlement and ect,. Later, in this section, the reason, purpose and meaning of the research is proposed. The list points out some mistakes in several reports.Part 2, stage adjustment. This part introduces the status of probing and planning Diaolongbei site, the publication condition of the utensils, the structural proportion of the utensils in the site and so on. From the Stratigraphy and the typology, the essay redivides the 184 units which published the site's utensils. On the basis of the regrouping, it adjusts the classification of three periods of the report into two periods (early and late) with three segments. Comparing with the original report, a few of adjustments are made to some units. A conclusion that the remains in the Diaolongbei site came down in one continuous line is got by reclassifying and fixing the excavated utensils. Then this section simply analyzes the cultural characteristics of the site's two periods with three segments. In the site, cord pattern utensils in the early period, include large number of cooking tripods with various patterns developed in a clear line, and some utensils only existed in early period like cup-attached plates, basins with puckering mouth, hearths, cavernas, high utensil holders and other utensils. In the late period, the surface of more utensils appears in the pattern of basket rather than cord. A large number of jars with ring foot were excavated while the number of tripods decreased, with only two patterns (basin-form and pot-form), some of which with ring foot under the belly of the tripod. There are some first-appeared utensils like basins with gloves, curved-abdomen cups, folded-shoulder tanks with big mouth. Overall, more tripods appeared in the early period and utensils with ring foot in the late period.Part 3, Qualitative Study. In the previous researches, there are continues disputes on the qualitative determination of the Diaolongbei site. This part first denies the conception of mixed culture proposed in the report. Then, by comparing the ruins of the site with the neighborhood ruins in the same period, it is thought that the Diaolongbei site has its own characteristics. In this process, the native cultural factors, the influence cultural factors from the neighborhood and the foreign cultural factors are discerned. Based on this, the naming of Diaolongbei culture is proposed. The utensil combination of tripod, tank and bowl is the basic utensil combination. The origin of the Diaolongbei culture still needs to be studied. The author considers Caojialou site is the later form of Diaolongbei culture.Part 4, remains analysis. The large-scale house sites in rows from this site really caught people's eyes from the beginning. Similar house sites excavated in the neighborhood such as Xichuan Xiawanggang, Xichuan Huanglianshu, Dengzhou Baligang, signifies that the settlement form in Nanyang Basin has its own characteristics. From the layout of the houses, the techniques of architecture, the design of sliding doors, we can tell the level of the productivity is relatively high. The large-scale house-site symbolizes the central tendency as a whole and the independence of the single room's door opening, which reflects the unified and contradicted status between the collectivity and the individual. Therefore, the author consider that the later period of Diaolongbei Culture is at the transient phase from the matrilineal clan to patrilineal clan.Part 5, conclusion. This part summarizes the whole essay and put forward the inadequacy of the research.
