Diseases and literature which seem irrelevant are in fact closely related. Diseases will not only affect the writer's health but also have its impact on the subject matters of the writers who suffer from the diseases. A large number of examples can be found in the history of Chinese and foreign literature . The former includes Si Maqian, Lu Zhaolin , Lu Xun, Yu Dafu, Zhang Henshui and Ba Jin etc, While the latter is marked by Homer, Kafka, Woolf, Holderlin, Dostoyevsky, Hemingway and Kawabata Yasunari etc. In this thesis the author will try to explore how the disease has impacted the works of several well-known Chinese writers in the new period, and attempt to clarify the following issues: What kind of influence has diseases had upon these writers ? What kind of change happened to their novels ? And what kind of significance does this change have to their works? Through the exploration to these issues , it would be help to inspect the works of several writers deeper, so as to nterpret these works from a new angle. In the new period, the representative figures are Jia Pingwa, Yan Lianke and Shi Tiesheng whose works are likely to be impacted by their own or family's diseases. Besides other writiers like Chencun and Zhang Haidi belong to be the same category. This thesis is the case study of the three writers Jia Pingwa, Yan Lianke and Shi Tiesheng. The introduction of this thesis mainly clarifies the purpose of the study under the background of relationship between diseases and literature . The first chapter of this thesis mainly compares the differences in Jia Pingwa's works between he got disease before and later , and tries to explain the disease impact on his creation, as well as the significance of the impact. Therefore the reason could be clear why Pingwa's novels became mysterious and decadent, not only because of the social impact and his own pursuit, but also the effect of his disease which offers his creation new features. The second chapter of this thesis mainly discusses the change which is brought by his diseases in Yan Lianke's fictions. It is believed that his disease has made his concept of life and philosophy change, and has compelled him to think about the meaning of survival, tribulation and struggle. His works have developed from the early concern about civil tribulation to the nature of the tribulation ,and from manifesting the bottom people's negative compromise when they face the tribulation into showing their positive resistance. It is obviously detected in his"Palou Series" works. The third chapter of this thesis mainly deals with Shi Tiesheng's fictions , analysing the relationship between disease and his creation, and points out his difference from Jia Pingwa and Yan Lianke .Shi Tiesheng only starts to write when he lost his legs at his most best age of 21 .Due to the restriction of his physical conditions, Shi Tiesheng can not explore the outside world. Therefore he keeps his eyes on men 's inner world and constantly thinks about it. This distinctive perspective of creation makes him firmly stick to pure literature . In this present society, with more and more kitsch in the contemporary literary circles, Shi Tiesheng 's creation has indispensable significance and value. The conclusion part of this thesis is the summary which concludes that the diseases not only bring the writers pain, but also provide unexpected insights and inspiration as well as the unique perspective of observation . It is very beneficial to their novel writing.
