This thesis makes a study of language learning strategies and chose Turkish people in Taiwan as experimental subjects. It analyzes the overall frequency with which these people employ learning strategies by means of questionnaire and interview data. The comparison between the results of the foreigners learning Chinese and those of the Turkish people is also examined to show their difference in nature and cultural backgrounds. It is hoped that this study can provide some implications for Chinese teaching and learning, supply materials for the establishment of Chinese teaching mold, and prompt effective strategies training.Based on Rebecca Oxford's Strategies Inventory for Language Learning(SILL),combining with the characteristics of Chinese language itself and other researchers' relating study,a CSLS questionnaire with certain reliability and validity was then designed. This questionnaire was taken as the main research instrument in this study with the supplement of interview.SPSS software was applied to do quantitative analysis, and qualitative analysis was drawn from interview. The findings of the research reveal that:Turkish people use affective strategies and social strategies most often. And followed by cognitive strategies. They use memory strategies and compensation strategies at a lower frequency. They use meta-cognitive strategies least. Finally, implications of this study for TCSOL are made and this thesis points that out in order to improve our Teaching Chinese,we should make a thorough investigation in the learning strategies used by different learners and thereby modify our teachings.
