Based on the current employment situation of Chinese university students and the theory of Vocational guidance at home and abroad,462 participants were selected from five universities in Shandong province for this study. The questionnaire consists of career expectation scale, college students' specialty commitment scale, and Chinese college students' career decision-making self-efficacy scale.By using the methods of t test, variance analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis through SPSS 16.0 for Windows, characteristics of college students' career expectations, specialty commitment and career decision-making self-efficacy as well as their relationship were surveyed. The findings are as follows:(1) The career expectation of college students differs in gender, birthplace and major. The study finds that more girls tend to pursue career stability. As for the difference in the birthplace, city students pay more attention to the status of occupational prestige and stability factors compared with the rural students while rural students pay more attention to career self-development factors than urban students. At the level of the difference in the major, the prestige status of cultural students scores significantly higher than arts and sciences. Also, medical students are significantly higher than arts.Additionally, medical students' scores in the stability factor are significantly higher than those of science.(2) The specialty commitment of college students differs in gender, birthplace and major. In gender, girls on normative commitment scores higher than boys. For the birthplace, the pledge commitment, ideal commitment and total commitment of city students are significantly higher than rural students. As far as the major is concerned, the cultural and medical students' scores at the various dimensions of specialty commitment are significantly greater than the arts. Moreover, their emotional commitment and total commitment scores are significantly higher than science. In addition, the cultural and medical subjects' scores, respectively,at the continuing commitment and normative commitment are significantly higher than those of science.(3) The career decision-making self-efficacy of college students shows distinct differences in gender, birthplace, grade and major. The boys' self-evaluation and information-gathering scores are higher than that of girls, but lower on goal-setting than girls. At the level of birthplace, city students receive more social support than rural students. As for the grade, the total efficacy of sophomores was significantly higher than freshmen.Specifically, juniors' self-concept scores were significantly higher than freshmen and senior students;the information-gathering capacity of sophomores, juniors and seniors was significantly higher than freshmen;and sophomores were significantly higher than seniors.(4) There exist striking positive correlations between different dimensions of career expectation and career decision-making self-efficacy,most dimensions of career expectation and specialty commitment,as well as the specialty commitment and the career decision-making self-efficacy.(5) College students' career expectations and specialty commitment can predict the career decision-making self-efficacy,and specialty commitment is an intermediary variable between career aspirations and career-efficacy.The commitment to ideal, emotional commitment, self-development,normative commitment and the stability factors have direct effects on career-efficacy.The factor of prestige has an indirect influence on career-efficacy through ideal commitment and emotional commitment. The self-development has an indirect effect on career-efficacy through emotion commitment and normative commitment,so does stability factors through normative commitment.
