Research On The Relationship Between Self-esteem, Narcissism And Aggression

Owing to the complicated and confused relationship between Self-esteem and aggression,relationship between them always attracts many people's attention. Researchers in this field have done a large number of research and have put forward a variety of high self-esteem measurement methods on the basis of the heterogeneity of high self-esteem.At the same time, with the threaten egotism, people come to realize that with ego treat,high self-esteem people will behave aggressively. With further research, narcissistic factor of high self-esteem plays a great role on aggression. In this paper, this research investigated people with high self-esteem and with high covert narcissism have aggressive performance respectively.In this paper,this research included two studies. One of studies discussed under three kinds primings(positive, negative, none), the different types of high self-esteem (high explicit and implicit self-esteem as well as high explicit and low implicit self-esteem) performanced in physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger,hostility.The other investigated under three primeings (positive, negative, none), different types of the covert narcissism (high and low covert narcissism) performanced in physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger, hostility.Conclusions in this research are as follows:1. Covert narcissism would distinguish the stronger aggressive people effectively.To peole with high explict and low implict, people with high explict and implict self-esteem per se are more likely to aggress verbally. People with high covert narcissism per se behaved stronger in physical aggression, verbal aggression, anger and hostility than peole with low covert narcissism.2. High covert narcissistic people with High self-esteem were more vulnerable to this contexts, in which self-concept was be challenged and questioned.3. People with high covert narcissism were more sensitive to others'evaluation and external information and behaved differently. 4.Under priming,peole with high explicit and implicit self-esteem and people with high covert narcissism would adopt different methods to maintain self-view.while peole with high explicit and implicit self-esteem tend to aggress verbally,people with high covert narcissism would decrease and internalize hostility.5.with only child'surperiority in Chinese culture, people with high implicit and explicit self-esteem would behave stronger in verbal aggression than people with high explicit and low implicit self-esteem.
