In the 21st century, with the fast development of high-tech and more powerful function of mass media, such like internet, the process of globalization is speeding up greatly, which not only influences the economy and politics of the world, but global culture as well. The tendency is like this: the more powerful economy you have, the more culturally influential you are. In such a background, as the most powerful country, the U.S.A., taking advantages of its economic power and consumerism, is expanding its value all over the world. McDonald's, the typical icon of globalization, is strongly promoting American culture. This is why this thesis focuses on McDonald's culture. Globalization is a hot topic which has caused wide-spread discussion: Does it lead to cultural homogeneity or promote cultural diversity? Will it bring human happiness or disaster in future? People have been worried since these questions arose. Nowadays, it is hardly possible to avoid kinds of influences and conflicts in the process of globalization. Therefore, the thesis is to answer the following questions: How should we treat the influences and solve the conflicts? How should we do to maintain our traditional culture values in the process of globalization and McDonaldization? And what implications will be given to our future English culture teaching?Based on the theory of cultural relativism, from the perspective of intercultural communication, in the thesis the author makes a survey of the influence of McDonaldization on Chinese youth, so as to arouse people's public awareness, to help them hold up the correct view of culture relativism, efficiently adapt to the process of globalization, critically treat the relation between Chinese traditional culture and American culture, improve our national identity, and finally revive their traditional values. Simultaneously, some suggests about ESL teaching will be provided and discussed.
