"Willow Branches", the neoteric lyrics of Sui and Tang Dynasty, became popular during the Medium Term and Later Period of Tang Dynasty, since Bai Juyi wrote the words of the"Willow Branches"songs according to the"New Tune in Luoyang"in the Medium Term of Tang Dynasty. Then the song spread far and wide till the Qing Dynasty, which made it occupied important position in the history of Yuefu literature. Although there are some study results concerning the"Willow Branches"in the academic circles home and abroad, the contents mainly discuss about the origin of the tune, performing, the"Willow Branches"with uneven lines, the subjects evolution and so on. There has been no systematized and detailed study on the"Willow Branches"from the angle of Yuefu Theory yet.This paper mainly from the perspective of music and literature to study the"Willow Branches", is divided into four chapters. The first chapter for the song title analysis, chiefly discriminates which name is another name of the"Willow Branches"and which name is easily mixed up with the name of the song. Chapter II for the tune study, introduces the"Willow Branches"all around in the field of music and is divided into five sections, including the music type, instruments, the tune style, singing and dancing, and spreading conditions. Chapterâ…¢for the lyrics characteristics, analyses the lyrics of the"Willow Branches"in the field of literature and is divided into four sections, including the lyric subject, the form peculiarity, the word style and the literature characteristics. Chapterâ…£for the spreading after Tang Dynasty, introduces the development and changing of the song and is divided into five parts in chronological order, including the Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty.
