In "young" diplomatic history of Ireland, Irish neutrality diplomacy that puts into effect in the World Warâ…¡has had an important position. That policy has also had far-reaching influence to post-World Warâ…¡. As an ocean country, a member of British Commonwealth , a country who has such close relations with Britain. Its neutrality in the World Warâ…¡has obvious differences with other countries. Its background, neutrality policy and position change in the war has their own characters.The paper tries to put the diplomacy of such a small country to a macroscopic historical background. By narrating the evolvement of the World Warâ…¡and the change of Great Power's strategic subject, we understand that when the weak country which has an important strategy position faces the war and crisis, how to survive between the great countries. Except the introduction and concluding remark, the full text is divided into three chapters to discuss.The main body of the preface discusses the significance of this studies, it also simply presents the academic research on this subject in the home and abroad, and prescribes the concept such as"Ireland","neutrality".Chapter I sketches the implementation of the neutrality and the reason that why Ireland puts out the neutrality policy after the World Warâ…¡breaking. Reasons include the characters of Ireland so weak and small, the decision makers and the executors'individual factor, the complicated relationship with British in the history and the problem that divided with Northern IrelandChapter II tries to set forth Irish neutrality process in the World Warâ…¡. According to the war course, Great Power strategic objective and Irish policy change, that process of neutrality is divided into three stages. That is the neutrality in the"Phony war"time from Germany invades Poland to Germany invades Low Countries; the Irish neutrality in the "Irish crisis" period from Germany invades French to Germany fails at Stalingrad; the Irish neutrality in the "Axis powers failed" period from Germany be defeated in Stalingrad to Germany surrender.Chapter III narrates the result of the Irish neutrality after the World Warâ…¡, and valuates the Ireland neutrality by stages, and then, sum up the Irish neutrality is just a"Wartime Neutrality which is intact but has fix inclination", which also has four classical featuresThe conclusion argues the neutrality policy that Ireland insisted in the whole war process is not wise. Then meditate the relations of country's position in the world with country's interests.
