Syntactic-Semantic Study Of "Adverb+Numeral Classifier Phrase+Noun"

Many linguists have depicted and discussed the structure of"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun". But they didn't explain entirely why the structure"adverb+noun"can't be spoken in phrase level but the structure"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun"is free.The first chapter of this paper depicts and discusses the quantitative semantic feature and the restrict conditions of the adverb in detail which is in the structure of"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun". The second chapter discusses the category of numbers of common noun in modern Chinese. We compare the noun in modern Chinese with the nouns in other languages. And we consider that the common noun in modern Chinese has no the category of numbers. That is to say, it doesn't contain quantitative conceptual feature itself and just indicate the conceptual class. That's why"adverb+noun"can't be spoken.On the basis of the above, the third chapter analyses the classifier in the structure of"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun", sees about the evolution of classifier system in Chinese, and compared with some languages in the Sino-Tibetan language family. The chapter also studies in detail the essential problem of the classifier in modern Chinese and the restrictive relation between the classifier and the marker of plural forms of nouns. We think that the essentiality of the classifier in modern Chinese is individualization, that is to say the noun is quantified. So the classifier indicates the quantitative feature of the noun conception. This is why"adverb+noun"which has not been modified by a numeral classifier phrase can't be spoken, but the structure of"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun"is free.Thereafter, the fourth chapter depicts in detail the predicate function of the numeral classifier (+ noun) phrase in modern Chinese. And the predicate function can make adverb modify the numeral classifier (+ noun) phrase syntactically. The fifth chapter is about the pragmatic analysis of the structure of"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun". This chapter analyses the problem of the common bare noun modified by adverb in sentence level and the relation between the structure of"adverb + numeral classifier phrase + noun"and the structure of"adverb + V + numeral classifier phrase + noun".The research results of this paper provide something for further studies of related problems in modern Chinese. And the author also presents his own views and questions.
