Based on the official records in the Salt and Iron Conference,On Salt and Iron is a big work accomplished in the reign of Emperor Xuan of Han Dynasty.Despite political issues occupying the majority of its content such as arguments on financial problems,wars with neighboring countries,with delicate processing and arrangement by its writer Huan Kuan,it displays more features of literature,which typifies the style of political dibat prevailing in the medieval and late Xihan Dynasty.The thesis mainly discusses the literary features and criticism views reflected in this book,which embraces 3 chapters as follows:Chapter one refers to the main factors forming the book of On Salt and Iron,and its structure.Drawing on the analyses of other related literary works and characteristics of the background,the prevailing ideological tendency at that time,and the author's ideology,we found the author shows his own speculations,which is with the view points of the social celebrities and figures in the literary circles,we also found the book falls into 3 parts in accordance with its contents,namely,the debate between the officials and social celebrities,the debate between officials and figures in literary circle,and the author's own points.Based on the in-depth studies,Chapter two specifies the literary features of On Salt and Iron,which is assumed to have a combined natures of prose,Fu,and operatic novel.Chapter Three discusses the literary criticism views in On Salt and Iron.This thesis gives a comparative studies of different perspectives by parties of debates mentioned in the book towards the function of literature, the relation of literature styles and contents,and literature appreciation.
