On The Charitable Views And Practice Of Zheng Guan-Ying

During the late Qing Dynasty,the natural disasters and wars occurred frequently,causing the society to be unrest and the populace at large in dire straits.Facing.these,Zheng Guan-Ying——one of the well-known bourgeois reformists in the late Qing Dynasty not only put forward a series of political and economic reform measures,but also proposed many extremely informed opinions on how to prevent disasters and prepare for them.In addition,he was also actively involved in the practice of charity.Eventually his unique charitable ideas formed.This article mainly not explores Zheng Guan-Ying' charitable views and practice,but inspects the social reasons.The purpose is to provide a proper evaluation of this,hoping to have some reference on the modern society.This article is divided into four parts:The first part focuses on the origin of Zheng Guan-Ying's charitable views and practice.From the time and his life background,the article analyzes the influences on his charitable views from the Western charitable culture,Chinese traditional culture,his family and friends.The second part elaborates Zheng Guan-Ying's charitable views in detail.The article,inspects his thoughts not on how to prevent disasters and prepare for them but the general vulnerable groups.This chapter is divided into two major parts:First,Zheng's thoughts on how to prevent disasters and prepare for them.The section analyses his ideas on how to prevent disasters,especially floods and droughts.At the same time,this article is also concerned about his thoughts on how to prepare for the disasters and inspects this from four aspects:The first section is mainly about the general vulnerable groups.In this part,the article analyzes Zheng's views on the vulnerable groups—victims,unemployed persons,"piglet"and women.Zheng Guan-Ying suggested that we should take some measures,for example,"work-for-food" and "both supply and education" to solve the growing problem of vulnerable groups. The third part inspects Zheng's charitable activities in detail.The thesis points out that the main charitable activities are:the active participation in relief,actions on printing the books that encourage people to do kind things.Zheng not only actively involved in activities to set up the organization of charity relief and collect money for charity,but used advanced media,wrote and published positive books to attract more people to participate in activities of charity relief.The fourth part evaluates Zheng's charitable views and practice.The author presents three ideas:First,Zheng's charitable views and practice expand the content and objects of the charity and relief.At the same time, Zheng Guan-Ying learned from the experience of the advanced western charities actively,then proposing,more advanced views on disaster prevention and preparation;Second,as a result of the time and social class's limitations,his charitable thought and the practice also has the obvious flaws,for examples,to some extent he thought that we should study the west fully,his ideas also contain some factors of retribution; Third,the author analyses the enlightenment of his charitable thought and practice for our society.Some of zheng's ideas and methods on charity still has practical significance today,which are worth learning and emulating.
