A Study Of The Verb "Gaosu" With Objects

The essay mainly discusses the situation of the verb "gaosu" with objects.Based on the theory background of three flat surfaces grammar theory of syntax,semanteme,language use,with the subsidiary use of the argument structure theory and semantic point theory,the essay analysis and studies the verb "gaosu" with objects as detailed as possible in many visual angles.The essay is divided into five parts:Part one describes the sentence patterns which put "gaosu" as its predicate verb.Found that the basis of sentence is:agent+ verb+ recipient+ patient,syntactic arrangement of arguments generate different sentences.Part two analysis the normal syntactic arrangement of arguments based on the argument theory.Agent project to subject,recipient project to object one,patient project to object two.To generated sentences, because of the different restraints of the empty categories,patient point to different arguments.Part three studied these sentences:agent+ verb+recipient,agent+ verb+ patient,analysis the association between "gaosu" and the object.Part four,this part mainly analysis the unnormal syntactic arrangement of the arguments of "gaosu",describe these various sentences detailed,study the cause and the factor of chosing different sentences.Part five,from the diachronical angle,investigate these verbs which the meaning is "gaosu".We discover that they changed in different periods in history.People selected different verb to express themselves.
