Self-documentary as a refreshing and adventurous documentary genre, which corresponds to the times, has been increasingly attracting attentions from the theoretical field. The self-participative concept and self-reflective technique as the self-documentary style have been employed in many recent Chinese self-documentaries, especially some of which are representational works. Self-focusing, invasion to personal space, exposing self-involving, and composing on the basis of self-experience are utilized in self-documentary which providing a new orient of rethinking concept of reality. Being considered as an important part within the domain of contemporary Chinese documentary, self-documentary is distinguishing itself upon its subversive reality conception which is deeply rooted in the earth of postmodern context. It is necessarily important to establish aesthetic cognition on the background of the increasingly individual image high tide, about the documentary function, the standpoint of documentary filmmakers, and distinguishing approaches and techniques of self-documentary films.Based on the awareness of this issue, the academic thesis begins with a theoretical framework about philosophy and documentary ontology, combining the specific background of Chinese social and cultural transformation, standing on the"self-focusing"conception and techniques and makes some conclusions and considerations on the definition, history and present situation, reality conception and techniques of self-documentary, in order to make more maturely researches.
