Research On The Blank-Leaving Theory In Chinese Movie And Televison Drama

This article is the study of Chinese classical aesthetics - blank-leaving theory from extended theory to practice in the contemporary film and TV art. The text is composed of five parts as follows: the introduction briefly analyses the background, significance, purpose and basic methods of the research. Chapter One traces the concept origin of blank-leaving in the development course of Chinese traditional literature and art, discusses its significance and values that contains in our national cultural spirit, and then indicates the connotation and classification of blank-leaving theory in the area of movie and TV drama. On this basis, the paper summarizes three kinds of meanings of blank-leaving. Chapter two focuses on the study of narratology and analyses blank-leaving theory in the narration of movies and TV dramas from these aspects: narrative perspective, person, time-space settings and narrative suspension. Chapter three transfers the emphasis from subject analysis to receiver study. Through the introduction of several conception coming from the accepted esthetics and gestalt psychology, such as"response inviting structure","blank theory"and"horizons of expectations", it dissects the relationship between audience reception and blank-leaving. In the fourth part, after a series of theoretical discourse, the paper describes blank-leaving theory's function and application strategies in the production of film and TV with lots of examples of films and teleplays. At last, it is indicated that for this theory, there are three important application strategies: audio-vision processing, abridgement of narrative and information detaining.
