A Study On The Mentalities Of The Reclusive Poet QiuYuan

This dissertation, based on former studies about the community of South Song Dynasty reclusive poets, takes QiuYuan as a typical sample to conduct individual study. Starting from the perspective of the mentality of reclusive poets, the aim of this dissertation is to thoroughly analyze representation of QiuYuan's mentality in special historical periods and social environments, as well as its particular characteristics. Meanwhile, the mentality characteristics of the whole community of South Song Dynasty reclusive poets, as well as its evolvement track, should also be mentioned. The full text includes five chapters. The first chapter generalizes QiuYuan's biography and extant works, grasps some related backgrounds and reliable stuff. The second chapter discusses the adherents'group activities and the process of its division from a macroscopic perspective, providing a necessary historical background in which the mentality of adherents arises and an explanation for the root of its profound changes. The last three chapters analyze several changes of QiuYuan's mentality from three different angles, who is one of the typical adherents to serving as an official in Yuan Dynasty Government. It shows how QiuYuan introspects his ideal belief, historical attitude and life values in special historical environment, as well as finding out the subtle connection between individual mentality changes and the whole reclusive poets group. The dissertation, based on QiuYuan's extant poems and using research fruits on reclusive poets group, emphasizes reviewing historical information, appreciating original poems and theory analysis, making the studies on individual mentality and group mentalities combined smoothly and perfectly.
