This article takes a perspective of an artist's practice. we talk about the optial gray from the technique, and then put the grey as a object of study. On the basis of the process that it turn to the direct gray, which result from transparent Techniques, the article organize the ralationships between the gray and the oil painting. In order to make the reasons of the flimsiness of the Chinese oil paint clearly and to break through color science of China ,we must think the question of the gray out carefully and look through the study of the oil . At last, we should promote the growth of our art.The first part of thesis analysis the optical gray between the "gray vision" and the classical oil painting techniques, the issues about the gray and vision systems, and to distinguish the concept of the "Vision of gray" and "visual hallucinations".Carding the second part of thesis, we organize the process that the classical painting color had been changed from the "gray vision" to direct . This paper discusses a number of ways to cause the gray color. Then we put the gray vision in sequence of its development, and optimize the maturity, time landscape painting, impressionist period, as well as VanGogh, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cezanne and Pierre Bonnard, focusing on questions to reveal the gray color paintings which is a concentrated expression of thought.The third chapter talk about the Oriental philosophy about "gray" to explore the " modern gray aesthetic." Especially of new knowledge is bring forward that is both solemn gray also affinity, both deep ethereal again, both rich and simple, and both introverted also diffusion .The fourth chapter, from the contemporary world oil painting art material question and the ash color technique performance to the Chinese oil painting teaching significance two aspects, elaborated the great significance of the gray color to the presence of Chinese oil painting. In finally, it makes the systematic summary to the paper.
