The Application And Performance Of Gray In Contemporary Oil Painting

Gray is a unit in color language system,and also an important element in color expression.Gray usually refers to black and white mixed color or the color with no obvious color tendency,it not only occupies a relatively special position in the color system,but also plays an important role in the color deployment and color performance.In the present and contemporary painting,the gray expression is very active,and the images composed of various low color and colorless gray are the common features of many oil paintings,conveying the spiritual connotation of rich concepts,imagination and poetic sentiment.Objectively,the recognition and performance of gray has gone beyond the constraint of a single color element,and into the exploration level of artistic style and artistic spirit.This paper mainly adopts the methods of literature research and image research,first through the recognition and interpretation of gray,and the basic conceptions and application of gray in the field of painting color;In this paper,we analyze the different aesthetic conceptions of gray in modern oil painting,including four aspects,such as the charm of the element,the beauty of gray,quiet as artistic conception and the compatibility of the Chinese and the western.Secondly,this paper summarizes the artistic situation generated by the use of gray expression in oil painting,which is mainly focused on the four angles of the extreme application of gray,extension application of gray,abstract application of gray and personal application of gray.At the same time,use case analysis,in thematic painting,scene painting and portrait and so on,in the present and contemporary oil painting in the form of gray form and spirit expression.Finally,the essence of gray expression is deeply considered,and the artistic proposition of color and spirit is discussed.In addition,I express my understanding of gray and painting in my own painting creation.It is believed that the gray of the color unit vocabulary reflects the artistic spirit of an era in contemporary painting.Gray is the basic color,can build unique or gorgeouscolor art building,at the same time it is the language symbol of expression,individuality and spirit,can make the visual image with the most artistic appeal.Let us begin to explore the wide world of color expression from the smallest unit of color.
