Research Of The Charitable Cause In Qingdao During The 2nd Period Of Japanese Army Occupation

It was a particular stage for Qingdao when it was occupied by Japan for the second time. The Japanese Imperialism plundered the resources of Qingdao crazily, at the same time it tried to control every domain of Qingdao's society, including Qingdao's Charitable Cause, which suffered severe damage. Under the iron heel of the Japanese troops, local civil society were unwilling to be controlled by Japanese, they rescued themselves through their own ways. This thesis try to study the survival status, times character and social function of Charitable Cause for the period 1938-1945 systematically, further reveals the relationship between Charitable Cause and social change. The whole thesis is divided into four big parts.The first part studies the regional and social background of Qingdao's Charitable Cause's rise and development, such as ideological resource, natural disasters and artificial disasters , political changes, the development of economy after it opened the port, the movement of population. These factors influenced each other, made the Qingdao's Charitable Organization thrive agitatedly.The second part studies the number,historical evolution,organization and management,rules and regulations,and resource of funds of Qingdao's Charitable organization in that special period, then introduce how the industrial and commercial sectors of Qingdao maintain the alms-house of Qingdao, further reveals Japanese imperialism's destruction to the Qingdao's Charitable Cause.The third part introduces the social charity hold by the alms-houses that were managed by charitable groups and industrial and commercial sectors, including traditional charitable activities, as well as charitable education and charitable medicine which belong to modern charitable activities'content.The fourth part introduces the social functions and characters of Charitable Cause. That is to stabilize society and improve social customs. Its character is that government strengthened the control of charitable institutions, different from the inland cities, the industrial and commercial sectors of Qingdao play a leading role in Charitable Cause.The last part is a conclusion, with the regional and social background analyzed. This thesis applies the theories and methods of history,sociology,political science,geography,economics, analyzing the developmental course of Qingdao's Charitable Cause and its regional characters, then its influence to Qingdao's society.
