From the standpoint of emotion and realm,the joys of the Analects of Confucius are divided into two main categories——the joy of emotion and the joy of realm.In fact,four joys in the dissertation come down to two main categories.The main contents of the dissertation are as follows:The dissertation divides the joys of the Analects of Confucius into four types.The first is the joy of emotion.Confucius attached the importance to the emotion of human being.In normal times,he mostly talked about emotion which is love sad and joy.Although Confucius did not deny emotion and reasonable abreaction of it,he emphasized the joy of emotion according to the rites(Li礼),that is,the joy should be adjusted and controlled upon the rites's request and couldn't depart from the rites.Meanwhile,Confucius demanded that expressing the feelings should be real and natural,especially the joy of the emotion.But,how to ensure that the expression of emotion is real? He thought that establishing the ontology of moral personality was the most essential.The second is the joy of putting into practice the ritual(Jian Li践礼) and seeking after the heartedness(Qiu Ren求仁).The joy,the joy of Yan Hui,is bound up with the heartedness and the ritual.The essence of the joy is for the sake of the peace state of spirit through the self-effort of seeking after the heartedness of "restrain oneself to the ritual" We know that the joy of Yan Hui is a low-level joy in terms of "Hui is capable of occupying his whole mind for three months with no thought but that of perfect virtue".We see that the joy is far from the realm of perfect virtue through the "seeking"(Qiu,求) character.the "seeking" character suggest that his realm is during seeking after the heartedness process.By reason of the deficiency and immature of self-effort,the sensation and appearance of the joy is rather too confining.This is due to the restriction of extrinsic criteria(rites).The state corresponds to the self-effort is mainly "restrain oneself to the ritual" The third is the joy of achieving perfect virtue. The joy,the joy of Confucius,is the realm of "follow the desires of my mind without overstepping the boundaries(of what is right)".However,the eventual appearance of his ontology of the heartedness(Ren Ti仁体) has experienced a lengthy process.When he was seventy years old,he achieved fully the realm of the heartedness.With the emergence of the heartedness,the highest level joy also emerges in the meantime.So,the "achieving" character suggests that the joy is different from the joy of Yan Hui.The realm corresponds to the self-effort is mainly "loyalty and consideration"(Zhong Shu忠恕) and the understanding of the will of Heaven(Tian Ming天命).The fourth is the joy of "bathe in the Yi River and enjoy the breeze at the Rain Dance altar" (Yu Yi Feng Yu浴沂风雩).The joy is the joy of Zeng Dian.But,in fact,the joy of Zeng Dian has no independent meaning in the Analects of Confucius.The joy of Zeng Dian has different meanings in the eyes of Confucius and Zeng Dian.In Confucius's opinion,the joy of Zeng Dian is merely the emergence of the joy of benevolence person(Ren Zhe仁者);In Zeng Dian's opinion,merely the joy of snug temperament——the joy of emotion.Although the dissertation divides the joys of the Analects of Confucius into four types,in fact,the joys are only two categories——the joy of emotion——and the joy of realm.The joy of Confucius and Yan Hui is the joy of realm,the common ground between them is "the joy in the heartedness";the joy of Zeng Dian is only the outward expression of the joy of realm.
