So far, Jiang Wen has directed three films: In the Heat of the Sun,Devil on the Doorstep and The Sun Also Rises, which would be sufficient to enable him to occupy a prominent position in the cinema history of China. In such a context,this paper analyzes Jiang Wen's three films from the perspective of narrative form and style of the cinema and reveals the inner meaning of each film. This thesis is divided into five parts.ChapterⅠconcentrates on collecting,sorting and analysing of studies of Jiang Wen's films, and raises that analysis from artistic levels of film is appropriate one ,which avoids the endless of interpretation.ChapterⅡfocuses on the concept and theoretical premise about form and style of film ,and analysis paradigm of narrative form and style of film constructed by American famous film theorist David Bordwell. The thesis expands the analysis paradigm of narrative form,which combined with narrative concept and way of story constructed by Robert·Mackey in Story - substance,structure, style and the principle of screenwriting, in order to be closer to the film text.ChapterⅢanalyses narrative form of Jiang Wen's films by using analysis paradigm of narrative form constructed in the Chapter II so as to reveal the inherent implication of each film.ChapterⅣanalyses style of Jiang Wen's films by using analysis paradigm of style constructed by David Bordwell.Conclusion part of the thesis points out that interpretation of art work is the process which infinitely close to the art text, as Achilles never run behind the tortoise, that is the famous paradox stated by ancient Greek mathematician Zeno. So are analysis of Jiang Wen's films.
