| As a director,Jiang Wen has gotten his recognition in the international filmdom by his maiden work In the Heart of the Sun(1995).The later two works Devils on the Doorstep(2000) and The Sun Also Rises(2007)also attracted great attention from the filmdom both home and abroad. As to the commonalty acceptance to the three works, they has received dramatically different treatment:In the Heart of the Sun created a miracle in box office record, while Devils on the Doorstep was banned by State Administration of Radio,Film and Television and The Sun Also Rises received extremely poor box office record. In Jiang Wen's films, both his individual artistic style and the public affinity of films are got fully presentation;however, the acceptance of these classic films is tending to be marginalized. This dissertation is going to do a thorough research of the acceptance to Jiang Wen's films by both theoretical and empirical method.Firstly, the common characteristics of public affinity and individualization embodied in the three films are studied;secondly,on the basis of box office records of Jiang Wen's three films and their critical acceptation from internet, the general situation of the change in acceptance is summarized and the marginalization of these films is analyzed theoretically;thirdly,on basis of each film's box office and its critical acceptation from internet and press, the encounter in market of each film and its reasons is studied respectively with all consideration of their own historical and spatial backgrounds. Thus, the encounter in market of Jiang Wen's films and the process of their commonalty acceptance is presented tridimensionally. From the analyses above, the main reasons of the marginalizied acceptance of Jiang Wen's films are summarized. These reasons are the limitation of public experience in watching films caused by the limited development in film market;the crash of individualized artistic style and public thinking;the game played by internet and pirated resources and the censor system made by State Administration of Radio,Film and Television;the dilution of"High-Concept Movies"pattern to the affinity of traditional films;and the dispelling of significance of individualization. |
