The Status Of The Piano Curriculum For Senior Citizens In Shanghai And The Compiling Of Primary-level Piano Material

Aged tendency of population is becoming more and more obvious.China has the most aged people in the world.Shanghai has been the society of veteran form.China pays attention to the aged people education gradually and provides the law guarantee.The aged people education is an important part of the long life education.The aged people's desires of education and study are prominent increasingly with the improvement of aging population.The purpose of the research was to know the basic information of piano education for senior citizens and the problems that should be improved.And the feasible primary-level piano material had been compiled.Investigation and interview were the main methods of the study.The sample included seven Universities of the Third Age,eighteen piano classes and 263 students.The researcher compiled the questionnaire "Investigation on the study of old age piano in Shanghai" and "Interview on the study of old age piano in Shanghai" as two research tools,which included the following parts:the basic information,the situation of learning piano,the purpose of participating in the piano class,the problems encountered during the learning,the suggestions on the piano learning and the music preferences.After the analysis of the validity and the reliability of the prediction,the investigation started officially.The research recovered 263 questionnaires and the valid questionnaires were 246.The efficient was 93.5%.The questionnaires were analyzed by the mean of mean,SD,and percent.Three old people accepted the interviews which were recorded and word by word.According to the analysis of the data,the researcher summarized five conclusions as follows:1.There is a University of the Third Age in every district in Shanghai.But there are not piano classes in every University of the Third Age and the scale is not the same in all piano classes. The main teaching form is teacher's teaching and student's playing one bye one.The teaching equipment is complete in half of the piano classes.2.The main purposes of studying the piano were "rich the retirement living","exercise the reaction on hand and brain","relaxing".3.The main problems in the piano class were afraiding of playing the piano in public and not understanding of the music theory.Not familliaring with the staff is the most serious problem in practice.In addition,the practice time can't be ensured.4.Tbe old people wanted to learn the basic playing skills and the music theories most. Meanwhile,they liked the familiar and beautiful melody.5.The old people prefered the pop music in 1930's and 1940's in China most.And the old people liked the folk songs of other nations,which are also famous.Suggestions were provided to the teachers,Universities and the society.
