Sir Henry Sidgwick(1838—1900) was an famous influential British ethicist in western ethical academic circles of 19th century end, His moral theory of intuition utilitarianism had been large effects on various ethical schools, especially for intuitionist ethics in contemporary western ethics, Bringing the ethics into a new horizon. His intuition utilitarianism meets the requirement practically of the moral changing in the transition period of the society, while in theoretically, his intuition utilitarianism takes the ethics into the period of the inevitable step of the intuitionism. The study on the Henry Sidgwick's intuition utilitarianism has great theoretically and practically.The article illuminated the main points of Henry Sidgwick's intuition utilitarianism, making use of the history and realization combing method, breaking through the point from intuitionism and utilitarianism and focusing on the critics from Marx's perspectives.Henry Sidgwick's moral theory of intuition utilitarianism includes three aspects:In part one, we discussed Butler's moral theory of intuitive conscience and Mill's moral theory of utilitarianism and Kant's moral theory of free ill. By discussing Henry Sidgwick's developing the useful and discarding the useless of them, we pointed one the origin of Henry Sidgwick's moral theory.In part two, we mainly discussed the contents of Henry Sidgwick's moral theory on the basis of reading two works of his, and we explained his moral theory of three kinds of ethics methods among utilitarianism and intuitionism and egoism in detail.In part three, we demonstrated the contribution of Henry Sidgwick's moral theory, and mainly discussed the inspiration and influence of the theory of utilitarianism and intuition on contemporary ethics in western society.Henry Sidgwick's moral theory marked the end of modem utilitarianism and thriving of contemporary intuitionism. Without the doubt, Henry Sidgwick's still has some weak points due to the limit of the objective circumstance, But the new horizon of deviated from the ethics study is marked. A study on Henry Sidgwick's moral theory of intuition utilitarianism contributes to the whole development of the ethics study.By other's fault, wise men correct their own. It is contributive to the ethics by studying the Henry Sigdwick's moral theory of intuition utilitarianism.
