The paper aims to analyze the meaning of the high-frequency colloction of the common verbs between Chinese and English.This study belongs to the category of lexical Grammar.In this study,we will use a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods,taking the common verbs in HSK vocabulary as the object of study.Through selective research,we selected 252 common verbs which include 22 common action verbs.Meanwhile,the paper takes the corresponding action verbs in Macmillan Essential Dictionary as reference.During the study,the paper takes the explanation of verbs in Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese(the fifth edition)and Macmillan Essential Dictionary as examples and takes Chinese Corpus and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press which published the series called Shuchong and some cartoones of English as examples of lingual material.This paper uses the Semantic Componential analysis,Valence Grammer,the Theory Semantic Fields and the Frame of Semantics as our theoretical basis.The Semantic Componential analysis aims to investigate the meaning of each verb.Valence Grammer aims to analyze the valence of verbs between English and Chinese.The Theory Semantic Fields aims to analyze the different frames of Conceptual Structures between English and Chinese. In fact,the paper is based mainly on the research achievements of these theories,and is limited to them.During the study,we will use the examples to show the high-frequency colloction of every common action verb in order to find how they are used in real context.For some nouns which have hyponymy and hypernym,the paper will list the corresponding colloction behind the relevant entry of the verb in order to understand them.Lastly,the study will find the similarities and dissimilarities between the colloctions of every common action verb in Chinese and English by contrast.This study provides a theoretical evidence for some of the established lexical theory from a new prospective,which is beneficial for us to better understand the frequently used verbs,and for people to learn language,especially for beginners to learn Chinese or English better.The following are the specific chapters. The first chapter is the introduction.This chapter aims to introduce the source of the paper,research achievements of predecessors and the present situation of lingual study,the theories and methods of study and the meaning of study in the paper.The second chapter includes the theories and methods of study and the definitions of,the characteristics,classification and influencing factors of colloctions.This chapter introduces the Semantic Componential analysis,Valence Grammer,the Theory Semantic Fields and the Frame of Semantics in order to understand their research achievements and especially to introduce the uses of every theory in the paper.Through examining research achievements of predecessors,the paper summarizes the definitions,characteristics,classification and influencing factor of colloctions.The third chapter involves the meaning analysis of common action verbs of Chinese and their colloctions.At first,this chapter gives the definition of common action verbs of the Chinese Language.Following is the description of the colloctions of common action verbs of Chinese,that is the verbs related to the hand,the verbs related to the leg and the foot,the verbs related to the hips and the verbs related to the human body.The fourth chapter continues with the meaning analysis of common action verbs of the English language and their colloctions.The description of the chapter is the same as the third chapter,so we won't repeat it.The fifth chapter completes the paper with the contrasting of the high- frequentcy colloctions of the common verbs between Chinese and English as used in the language teaching.This chapter aims to find the similarities and dissimilarities between the colloctions of every common action verb in Chinese and English through contrast.At last,the paper gives advice on language teaching.Finally,the conclusion summarizes the study of the paper and prospecs of future work.
